Welcome to OcellarisClownfish.com

Our mission is to spark a lifelong passion for marine life by helping hobbyists of all levels bring the magic of the ocean into their homes. We believe that keeping clownfish is more than just a hobby – it’s a rewarding journey of discovery, conservation, and connection.

My name is Chad, and I founded this site in 2013 to provide the inspiration, knowledge, and community you need to build a thriving, vibrant reef of your own.

Where the Obsession Began

I still remember the first time I saw a saltwater fish tank. This was many years ago, back when the hobby’s best practice was an under-gravel filter with powerheads and a crushed coral substrate. I was completely fascinated by the iridescent blue damsels and the stark contrast of the domino damsels swimming in that 20-gallon long tank.

And of course, there was the clownfish, with its trademark black, white, and orange bands and that classic, wobbly up-and-down swimming motion.

From 1,000 Gallons to a Desktop Lagoon

The author’s newest 25-gallon lagoon tank

That first tank made an impact that has endured throughout my life. While circumstances haven’t always allowed me to keep a system running, at my peak I was managing around 1,000 gallons at once across several systems – including dedicated reef tanks and breeding setups for designer clownfish.

Currently, I’m running a 25-gallon lagoon-style tank filled with zoanthids, a couple of anemones, and a trio of Black Storm Clownfish. With this site, I hope to share my passion for reef keeping and inspire someone else to fill up a glass box and create their own little piece of the ocean!
